Calculating Working Days – New in Excel 2010

To calculate the number of days between two dates in Excel is simply a matter of deducting the earlier date from the later date.

In a working and business environment you probably want to know the number of working days between two dates. To do is use the NETWORKDAYS worksheet function. Excel counts the number of days between two dates and excludes the weekends – Saturday and Sunday. If you list the dates of bank holidays, etc Excel will also exclude these dates from the calculation. Pretty neat huh?

Just a minute, I work 6 days a week, only getting Wednesdays off?

In Excel 2010 a new function NETWORKDAYS.INTL solves this problem by allowing the default weekend of Saturday and Sunday to be altered. There are 17 variations of a “weekend”, some of which are one day only, so all combinations should be catered for.  The image below shows the help screen with the options.
